Embarking on your child’s first full-day kindergarten experience is an exciting time, and much deliberation goes into choosing the right school. Children are unique and bring their own personalities and interests to the learning environment.

That is why, in addition to school readiness, our application process helps us understand each child’s passions, strengths, and areas for growth. These important facets of a child’s uniqueness influence future academic achievement and social-emotional growth.

Please note that we do not accept applications years in advance; therefore, the earliest you can apply is the September before your child would attend kindergarten. Kindergarten applicants for the 2025-26 school year should be born in 2020 or late 2019.

Applications opened on September 9, 2024, for the 2025-26 school year. Those who completed their applications by October 11, 2024 qualified for the first round of considerations. Historically, all kindergarten openings are filled from applications submitted for the first round of considerations.

Once you have received a confirmation email, you can attach the requested supporting documents.

If your child is not accepted for the upcoming school year, your application can be rolled over to the next application period (the following school year) and you do not have to pay another $175 application fee.

Upon completion of the application documents, your child will be invited to attend a Learning Snapshot session. This session is a one-hour observation that will take place at various times in October and November.

During this session, children participate in various age-appropriate activities which help our enrolment team get to know your child.

In order to be considered for admission, your child’s attendance at a Learning Snapshot session is mandatory.

Based on availability in our program as well as completed applications and assessments, parents of selected students are invited to an interview.

Interviews offer a meaningful opportunity to have a more personal conversation with a member of our enrolment team. These interviews help us to get to know your child and your family better, and they help you get to know Rundle College better!

Typically, interviews take place following the Learning Snapshot.

We are excited to extend contract offers to selected candidates.

Acceptance to Rundle College is based on several factors including the application, requested documentation, academic history, Learning Snapshot observations, and the interview.

Our students have strong academic profiles. However, grades don’t tell a child’s whole story.

That is why, in addition to academic readiness, our application process helps us understand each child’s passions, strengths, and growth areas which influence academic achievement and social-emotional growth. Primary and elementary children share who they are in a number of ways, including videos, questionnaires, school visits, and personal interviews.

Those who completed their applications by November 15, 2024 qualified for the first round of considerations. We continue accepting applications throughout the school year, but we recommend that they be submitted in the fall, as spaces are limited. Only those with completed applications will be considered for placement. Families are contacted as suitable openings become available or if we choose to host further school visits and Learning Snapshots. Please contact our enrolment team for more information.

All documentation, including applications, the Learning Snapshot session, and anecdotal notes, are reviewed by the enrolment team.

Students applying to grades 4 and 6 will be invited to the fall Learning Snapshot. Students applying for other grades will be contacted when openings are confirmed. This may be as late as February.

Interviews offer a meaningful opportunity to have a more personal conversation with a member of our enrolment team. These meetings help us to get to know your child and your family better, and they help you get to know Rundle College better!

Based on availability in our program, as well as completed applications and assessments, selected students are invited to a family interview.

Typically, interviews for grades 4 and 6 commence in December while interviews for grades 1, 2, 3, and 5 commence in February as openings develop.

In order for us to learn more about each candidate’s academic and character skill set, prospective students must write the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT) and complete the Character Skills Snapshot (CSS). These items are required prior to any interviews or offers. Students with completed applications, including the SSAT, will be considered first.  The CSS, which takes about 30 minutes, is done at home once SSAT registration is complete.  

For SSAT registration and more details about writing the SSAT, please visit here. Throughout the summer and school year, we also offer virtual information sessions about the SSAT, the CSS, and how we use these results in our admission process. We hope you will join us.

SSAT writings for the 2025-26 admission cycle began in August 2024. Students have three options:

1. Write the test via the SSAT at Home program;
2. Write a computer-based test at a Prometric test centre; or
3. Write a paper-based version at various school locations throughout the year. Students can write at any location that works best for them and do not need to write the test at Rundle College to apply at our school. 

Rundle College SSAT dates (in person)

• February 1, 2025
• March 1, 2025

More dates will be added throughout the school year based on demand. Please visit www.ssat.org to register. As the SSAT scores are scaled, there is no real advantage to leaving the test writing until late in the process. Based on the demand for our program, it is advantageous to complete the SSAT early in the fall. 

Applications can be submitted without the SSAT results, but please indicate the date your child is scheduled to take the exam. This information helps us plan the review of applications and schedule interviews. 

NOTE: While we accept SSAT results throughout the year, those written by December 31 qualify applicants for the first round of offers.
