Tomás’s Story
Tomás loves soccer.
Soccer is his favourite sport. Playing soccer is his favourite activity with friends. And the soccer pitch is his favourite place to be.
“I love soccer because I feel energetic and happy when I play, and I get to spend time with my friends,” he says. “My favourite thing about it is no matter where you are, you could still play soccer. All you need is just a ball and you can have fun.”
Tomás plays club soccer and loves being a striker on his team.
“The striker is the person who stays up and scores the most goals. It feels good when you score the winning goal and everybody comes up and surrounds you. You feel like the star player,” he says.
As he progresses in the sport competitively, 11-year-old Tomás says he also loves practicing and training because he likes “learning new skills and seeing my improvement.”
School is another area of his life where he has learned new skills and where he can see the huge strides he has made as a student.
“It’s a good school because you learn so many different new things than you would at other schools, and everybody is super kind to you so you won’t feel left out here. And the class sizes are really small so the teachers give you more attention, and that really helps me,” he says.
When asked to describe Rundle Academy in three words, Tomás says “best school ever!”
“This is the school where I feel like I can express myself more than any other school, this is where I get the most support, and my teachers and my friends here make me feel safe,” he says. “I didn’t really like learning or school much, but since I’ve been going to Rundle, I’m liking learning more. It’s fun to go to school here.”
