Sona’s Story: The Fusion of Science and Art
Published on October 23, 2024
Sona’s journey at Rundle College began in kindergarten in 2015, and her growth over the years has been remarkable. Now a grade 9 student, Sona embodies the compassion and drive that Rundle nurtures in its students. Her aspirations are clear: she aims to combine her love of science and her creativity to make a difference in the lives of children. “I want to be a pediatric psychiatrist,” she explains. “I hope to help kids with their mental health early on, so they can live better lives as they grow up.”
To achieve this goal, Sona is developing a strong foundation in both science and the arts. Through Rundle’s robust academic program, she is pursuing her passion for chemistry and biology to deepen her understanding of the human brain and body. She values both medicinal and holistic approaches to mental health and sees them as vital tools for her future work.
But Sona’s interests don’t stop with science. As a saxophonist in Rundle’s performing arts program, she finds freedom in music. “Art is limitless,” Sona says. “For me, music is a break in the day, a moment of freedom.” The balance between the structured world of science and the boundless realm of creativity is something she cherishes, recognizing how each plays a role in her personal development.
Sona’s dedication to serving others is matched by her leadership potential. At a leadership conference last year, she began to see the deep connection between science and art in her own approach to solving problems. “Science is like your captain because it’s driven and focused,” she reflects. “Art is like your poet, it is the reason behind why you do what you do. When your captain connects with your poet, you are able to create thoughtful solutions to problems. Together, they create a complete leader.”
Sona’s story highlights the way Rundle’s programs encourage students to explore the intersection of disciplines, fostering both analytical thinking and creative expression. Through the fusion of science and art, students like Sona are preparing to lead with innovation, empathy, and purpose.
